Eight Weeks

A Fetus at Eight Weeks

Today marks the eighth week of pregnancy, and to celebrate I finally tossed my cookies last night. Thank you very much!

The Unisom and B6 does wonders for me during the day. I can eat breakfast and lunch without any trouble. But, the medication seems to wear off in the mid to late afternoon about the time that school is coming to a close. Then I'm crazy hungry, but the food aversions mean that there's not much I can eat that appeals to me. Fruit usually appeals to me, but it just doesn't fill me up and keep the hunger pains at bay for long. So all evening I struggle to eat enough to prevent the nausea. Couldn't do it last night.

I am bummed that I have to report to jury duty on Monday morning. I don't know how I'm going to manage that. At school, I keep my little fridge stocked with fruit and yogurt and other things to eat. I don't know how I'm going to get through the day in a jury room, and there's just no way I can serve on a jury right now. I first received this summons right after Michael passed away, and I was able to get a postponement then. There is nothing on this summons that gives instructions for postponing service or what to do if you're unable to report. So I guess I'm going to have to go in and tough it out.

  1. Wow, that stinks. :( I will pray that you aren't picked, or that you can get out of jury duty somehow!

  2. Definitely bring proof of your pregnancy to show them. Can your RE give you a letter with a medical reason? You can also tell them immediately when you arrive that you need the use the bathroom frequently and can't sit for long periods of time due to the increased risk of blood clots that's possible during pregnancy.

Otherwise, hang in there one more month and then you should start to feel much, much better.

You've been so great trying not to complain about how bad you've felt. I can only imagine how you must feel doing this without Michael at your side. I know you are more grateful beyond belief to be pregnant, but you are also still grieving and that's a very difficult combination to balance.

  3. Where do you get these wonderful images of babies inside? They're really great!

I'm so sorry that you're feeling crummy, and sometimes you can call to see if they need you or not (or at least where I live that's true). I agree that you should take u/s photos and tell them that you're all day long sick and can't stay in the courtroom long enough to pay attention. Hope that you feel better soon and get to skip out on jury duty!

  4. Kimi, thanks for the suggestion. I will take something with me and explain my predicament when I get there. Hopefully someone will take pity on me and excuse me. And you're right about this being hard. I am grateful that I've been blessed with this pregnancy, but it is very hard to do this without Michael. If he were here, he'd be taking such good care of me. I miss him all the time, and I just wish we had gotten pregnant when we were first married so that we could have shared this together.

  6. I love the suggestions from K - I would tell them all those things. I was excused from jury duty years back with a letter from my doctor explaining my IBS. Because of my need to use the bathroom frequently I couldn't be counted on to sit in a jury for extended periods of time. Between your all day nausea and need to use the restroom frequently I'd be shocked if they didn't excuse you. Great idea to bring along medical documentation, whatever you have, as proof to share with them. Sure hoping you won't have to stay. That is the LAST thing you need to do right now. And, I, too wish Michael were there to physically care for you making the day to day easier. I know he's caring for your heart, but realize that the physical day to day is so very challenging without him. Sending you hugs and hopes for a "jury free" Monday! Sarah

  8. Joannah-Jury duty can wait! I was able to put off my service three different times due to health reasons. Call the number of the court you are to report to. I feel certain that you will be able to get another extension. Sorry that the nausea has hit. I had it the whole time I was pregnant with Stephanie. Maybe that's why I only gained 11 pounds. It was rough though. As always, you're in our prayers-we love you and this new baby! Cousin Marla
