April Growth Scan

I've been meaning to post about my appointment with the perinatologist on Monday. There we learned that Michaela weighs 6 pounds and 3 ounces. I know that can be somewhat inaccurate, but the margin of error could be plus or minus. With that in mind, I will be discussing reasonable options with my OB on Friday. My only thought is to avoid having a nine or ten pound baby. Hats off to those of you who have birthed one of those, but I'd rather not, thank you!

The technician there commented that she could see a lot of hair on Michaela's head. I couldn't really make it out on the video monitor myself, but I'm excited to see it in person soon! The baby had her face turned away from the ultrasound, so I don't have a picture to post this time.

The perinatologist said I wouldn't need to return for anymore growth scans, so unless something else comes up I have graduated from that monthly check-up.

  1. Just in case you check your stats and saw someone on your blog almost constantly for the last couple of days, I wanted to reassure you that I'm not a stalker. My daughter & I traveled to China for her baby girl last August and I continue to read several China blogs. I happened to see your comment on one and was drawn to your blog.

I have been so touched by your story and your journey. I'm so sad for your loss, but so happy for this new baby. My prayers are and will continue to be with you for a blessed and easy labor and birth experience.

You have a talent for writing and should consider a book!

  2. Diane, thank you for your comment! Congratulations on your new granddaughter. I wish things had worked out for me to have completed my adoption from China, too. I'll always have a heart for those kids and their families.

  3. My son was 8.9 at birth. Quite honestly, I think you might be stressing about the weight too much. It's the crowning of the head that hurts the most. After that, the baby's shoulders twist around and the baby just plops out quickly, the weight of the baby doesn't have much to do with the pain. It's the contractions and the crowning that hurt, and that has nothing to do with the baby's weight.

  4. I can't comment on the crowning. Gill arrived by C-Section which was just fine by me. If in that position, I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

However she gets here, come on Baby Michaela! Wishing a safe journey for both you and Mommy!

  5. I don't know if you're aware of the risks large babies have during birth, Karen. They can break their collar bone, and even experience nerve damage. So, it's not just for my comfort, but for her well-being. I was 8 pounds 10 ounces, and Michael was 8 pounds 7 ounces. I am 5' 8" and he was 6' 1". We are big people.

  6. Ahhh ok. I just figured there was risk with any birth, but it makes sense. My son is going to be 28 years old this year! Time flies. Here's to safe deliveries. :-D
